What we believe – our Statement of Faith

Our belief is rooted in the living Word of Almighty God, which is made clear to us through His son Jesus Christ, who is that Word. Here is a summary of our Statement of Faith. (The language may be a bit formal in parts as it is taken from our Association’s official document).

Holy Scriptures

The Scriptures of the old and new testament were given by the inspiration of God, and are the only sufficient, certain and authoritative rule of all saving knowledge, faith and obedience.

God

There is but one God, maker, preserver and Ruler of all things, who is due the highest love, reverence and obedience.

The Trinity

God is a triune God and reveals himself to us as Father (self-sufficient, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient), Son (Jesus Christ our Saviour and Mediator between God and man) and Holy Spirit (who is God’s active presence on earth and working within and for his people), each with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence or being.

Sin

Sin (voluntary violation of a known law of God) came into the world through disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, and so the inheritance of death (eternal separation from God) by sin.

Repentance and faith

Saving faith is belief in God as revealed in His Word concerning Christ. Receiving and resting upon Christ alone for justification (acquittal from sin) and eternal life (with God) . It is wrought in the heart by the Holy Spirit. And is accompanied by saving grace (God’s unmerited favour), and leads to a life of holiness.

The Church

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, which is composed of His true disciples. In Him is invested supremely all power for it government.

Evangelism and mission

It is the duty of every Christian and Church of our Lord Jesus, to spread the gospel (good news of Jesus Christ) to the ends of the earth in response to the expressed and repeated command of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Return of Christ

There will be a literal bodily, visible and imminent second coming of Jesus Christ. Then the living and dead; if just, will receive eternal life and the unjust eternal damnation (separation from God).
